Master Course CSND Cancer Metabolism
For master students at Utrecht University, we recommend this course. It centers on the idea that cellular metabolic networks support key aspects of cancer cell function. Lectures and tutorials in the first week discuss the various underlying molecular mechanisms, including the classical ‘Warburg effect’ and other metabolic rewiring proccesses, oncometabolites, reactive oxygen species (ROS) and lipids, and the link(s) with epigenetics. The course will also illustrate how altered metabolism, either in the whole body or in cells adjacent to a tumour, can affect cancer cell functions. Various experimental and analytical approaches including metabolomics will be covered.
